FANNO CREEK TRAIL INFORMATION The Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District is seeking support for $359,000 in federal grant funds through the Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program to improve the safety of the Fanno Creek Trail as it crosses busy Hall Boulevard at Greenway Park. If these funds are awarded to the Park District, they will be used to complete a feasibility study to explore potential trail crossing options such as a pedestrian bridge over Hall Boulevard or routing the trail to cross at Creekside with the addition of a traffic signal at Hall and Creekside. I know that $359,000 sounds like a big sum of money for a feasibility study, but I have been told that the feasibility study is the best way to get a resolution on the trail crossing and get things rolling. You can show your support by testifying at a Listening Post meeting on November 13, 2006 at the Beaverton Community Center from 5-8pm or by mailing, faxing or emailing a support letter to: Ted Leybold, MTIP Program Manager 600 NE Grand Ave. Portland, OR 97232 Fax: 503-797-1949 Email: trans@metro.dst.or.us All letters, faxes, emails must be received by December 1, 2006 You can learn more about the Fanno Creek Regional Trail and this grant project on the web at: www.thprd.org and view a sample letter of support that you can send. This project made the First Cut List for Metro's 2008-11 Transportation Priorities. The list includes 67 projects totaling $133.5 million. Public comment will help to narrow the list to more closely match the $45.4 million that is actually available. The First Cut List is posted on the Metro website. The Listening Post meeting is a chance for people to testify in favor of projects they feel are important and that should make the final cut. Many projects will have testimony at this meeting. An e-mail or letter is also a good way to show support for this project. This is federal grant money that Metro is disbursing and if we don't get the funds they will probably end up in the Portland area. |
