GREENWAY NEWSLETTER September 2008 Issue 49 NEXT NAC MEETING IN OCTOBER AT CONESTOGA MIDDLE SCHOOL The next meeting of the Greenway NAC will be on October 16, 2008 at 7:00 PM. We will meet in the Library at Conestoga Middle School. We will have several important presentations. City of Beaverton Mayor Rob Drake will give us his vision for the city as well as answer any questions you may want to ask him. I will also ask the mayor to give a short update on the potential design changes for the 125th Avenue extension. Beaverton City Staff will give us a presentation on the Beaverton Urban Renewal Charter Amendment that will be on the November ballot. There will also be presentations on the $374 million dollar PCC bond measure and the $100 million dollar Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District Bond Measure. This meeting will also be our annual election meeting. There will not be a separate mailing for the October meeting agenda as there will be a postal patron postcard sent to all addresses in the NAC. I will have agendas available at the meeting. The agenda will also be posted on the NAC Website (http://greenwaynac.homestead.com) several weeks before the meeting. VOTERS FORUM ON LOCAL ELECTION RACES On Tuesday, October 14, 2008 Beaverton CCI (Committee for Citizen Involvement) will sponsor a voter's forum for local races including State Legislative House and Senate Races. There will also be information on many of the local bond measures. Watch for a postcard with more information including the races covered. The forum will be at 7:00 pm in the Beaverton City Council Chambers. PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT AT 9540 SW 125TH AVENUE West Coast Self Storage is considering redevelopment of the existing self-storage facility at the above location. The plan indicates removal of part of the existing development and replacement with a new self storage building and associated leasing office. An existing church office will be moved to one of the existing storage buildings, which will be remodeled accordingly. The new storage building will be a single main level with a basement accessed by a vehicle ramp. This application includes a zone change from NS (Neighborhood Shopping) to R2 (Residential) and Conditional Use for self storage. The developer will hold a meeting to discuss the development on September 30, 2008 at 6:00 pm. The location of the meeting is at the existing self-storage facility whose address is 9540 SW 125th Avenue (next to the 7-11). FREE DOCUMENT SHREDDING DECEMBER 6th Identity theft and fraud crimes are on the rise. The City of Beaverton wants to help you avoid becoming a victim of identity theft and fraud by keeping your personal information away from the hands of thieves. The Beaverton Police Department will be sponsoring a free shredding event this year from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on December 6, 2008 at the Beaverton City Hall Parking Lot, 4755 SW Griffith Drive. Participants are encouraged to donate canned food to the Oregon Food Bank at shredding events. A commercial-sized shredding truck will be used for this event. Items no larger than staples and paper clips may be attached to the papers. Limit of three boxes per vehicle. Service will be on a first come, first served basis and limited to the capacity of one commercial-sized shredding truck. BEAVERTON SENIOR RESOURCE FAIR The Senior Citizen's Advisory Committee is hosting a Beaverton Senior Resource Fair on Wednesday, October 8th. Learn more about resources available to seniors in our community. Listen to speakers and visit booths. Topics include senior safety, fraud, housing, financial assistance and much more. The fair runs from 9 a.m. to noon at the Beaverton City Library, 12375 SW 5th Street. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be awarded. INTEL-SOLV WASHINGTON COUNTY CLEAN AND GREEN Volunteer registration has begun for the Intel-SOLV Washington County Clean & Green, which takes place on Saturday, October 11th, from 9 a.m. -1 p.m. Join your friends, neighbors and co-workers at one of 50 community projects all over Washington County for a day of tree-planting, litter cleanup, invasive vegetation removal, parks and school grounds improvement and more--all to help make the area a better place for all!
