NEXT NAC MEETING IN OCTOBER:  LOCATION CHANGE!!
The next meeting of the Greenway NAC will be on October 21, 2004 at 7:00 PM. We will meet at the Beaverton Resource Center, 12500 SW Allen Blvd. This is the location of the old Beaverton Library at the intersection of Hall Blvd and Allen Blvd. The location has changed due to an October scheduling conflict with Conestoga Middle School. Our guest speaker will be the City of Beaverton Mayor Rob Drake. Rob will give us his vision for the city as well as answer any questions you may want to ask him. This meeting will also be our annual election meeting.

NAC MEETING AGENDA
There will not be a separate mailing for the October meeting agenda. I will have agendas available at the meeting. The agenda will also be posted on the NAC Website (http://greenwaynac.homestead.com) several weeks before the meeting. Agenda items will include Mayor Rob Drake, elections, a short presentation from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue regarding their funding measure on the November Ballot, and the latest information on the 125th extension and the Highway 217 Corridor Study.

PERMANENT DATE CHANGE FOR NAC MEETINGS??
The Greenway NAC has been meeting on the third Thursday for years. However, there are conflicts with Conestoga Middle School on this date due to parent teacher conferences. I am considering asking the NAC to change the meetings to the first or fourth Thursday of the month. This will be a discussion item at the October NAC meeting.

VOTERS FORUM ON LOCAL ELECTION RACES
On Tuesday, October 12, 2004 Beaverton CCI (Committee for Citizen Involvement) will sponsor a Voters Forum for local State races. The Forum will be held at Beaverton City Hall in the City Council Chambers from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will include our local Senate District 14 race (currently held by Ryan Deckert) and our local House District 27 race (currently held by Mark Hass). There will also be a pro and con presentation on Measure 37 that requires governments to pay landowners or override regulations when the regulations reduce property value. Watch for a postcard with more information on the Voters Forum.

S.W. DOWNING DRIVE IMPROVEMENTS
A new storm and surface water system including new piping, new catch basins and new water quality filtration devices are being installed from S.W. Greenway to S.W. Conestoga. New sidewalks and a complete restoration of the paving surface will follow. The work is being done entirely by city crews and should completed around the first of November.

125th EXTENSION UPDATE
The 125th extension project is being done in three phases. Phase 1 is the 125th/Brockman/Greenway intersection project, which is complete. Phase 2 is wetlands mitigation and storm detention at the north end of the project near Hall Boulevard. For construction of Phase 2 to commence, right-of-way acquisitions will need to be made. As such, it is estimated that construction will begin either in the summer of 2005 or the spring of 2006. Phase 3 is the actual road construction. The cost of phase 3 is estimated at nine to eleven million dollars. The City staff will do a cost update of Phase 3 during the 2004-05 Fiscal Year. The Mayor mentioned at the Hiteon Park Community Picnic that City crews might do some of the work on Phase 3. I will ask him to do an update on this issue at the October NAC meeting.

PROPOSAL TO PROHIBIT LEFT TURNS FROM GREENWAY INTO ALBERTSON'S
Albertson's appealed the April 3, 2003 decision of the Beaverton Traffic Commission to prohibit left turns from the southbound lane of SW Greenway into Albertson's driveway. Albertson's was successful in their June 16, 2003 appeal and left turns were prohibited from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm only. This issue came back to City Council on June 14, 2004 to evaluate the success of the limited left turn prohibition and look at the possibility of an additional left turn lane after the city had time to study the costs of an additional lane. City Council approved the continuation of the left turn restrictions on SW Greenway into Albertson's driveway and rejected a left turn lane. The hours will stay the same (3:00 pm to 7:00 pm) but City Council decided that the restrictions would only be in force Monday through Friday.
