NEXT NAC MEETING IN MAY
The next meeting of the Greenway NAC will be on May 15, 2003 at 7:00 PM. We will meet in the library at Conestoga Middle School. Look for the agenda flyer in the mail next month. We will have a presentation from Bruce Gilles, DEQ Project Manager for the View Master TCE cleanup operation. Questions were raised at the last NAC meeting about the effects the cleanup operation is on having on the Fanno Creek drainage system since the treated groundwater from the air stripping and chemical oxidation treatment systems is being discharged to a wetland area that drains into Fanno Creek through existing storm water drainage systems. Also, see the 125th/Brockman/Greenway Intersection article regarding a possible second presentation.

125th /BROCKMAN/GREENWAY INTERSECTION CONSTRUCTION
The intersection reconstruction project is scheduled to start this spring. The city has not been able to acquire some necessary right of way and unless the property acquisition is formalized by May 1, 2003 construction will probably be delayed until the spring of 2004. The city has made a final offer for the property and if the offer is not accepted Beaverton will have to go to Court to condemn the property and have the Court set the selling price. The original plan was for construction work to start in late April or early May with some traffic delays on Greenway and Brockman between Downing Drive and Sorrento. There was the possibility that Brockman, between 125th and Sorrento, would be closed for up to 30 days during the summer. The construction would also close the entrance from Oxbow onto Greenway during some of the project. This would  require all upper Greenway traffic to use Davies Road as their entrance to Greenway Street. If the city should acquire the right-of-way in time for construction this spring, I will have Joel Howie, Beaverton's project manager for the construction, at the May NAC meeting to discuss traffic control issues.

PROPOSAL TO PROHIBIT LEFT TURNS FROM GREENWAY INTO ALBERTSON'S
On Thursday April 3, 2003, at 7:00 PM the Beaverton Traffic Commission held a second public hearing to
hear comments on Issue No. TC 500: Left Turn Restrictions on SW Greenway at the Driveway near Hall Boulevard. The Traffic Commission then voted to prohibit left turns from Greenway into the parking lot at Albertson's, except for motor trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating over 20,000 pounds. The left turn prohibition will apply at all times. After a ten-day appeal period, this decision will go before City Council as a consent item.

THPRD EARTH DAY
Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District is sponsoring a THPRD Earth Day event on April 19, 2003 (10 a.m. until 1 p.m.) at the Tualatin Hills Nature Park & Interpretive Center (15655 SW Millikan Blvd. in Beaverton). There will be free mini-plant workshops, interpretive walks, as well as booths from local conservation groups and a native conifer tree display. VOLUNTEERS NEEDEDBEAVERTON NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP DAY
The Annual Cleanup is in need of volunteers. The cleanup site is at Beaverton City Hall on Saturday, June 7, 2003. There will be three 2½  hour shifts. Shifts are 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. I will have a sign up sheet at the May NAC meeting.  If you can help, you can also call the Beaverton Neighborhood Office at 503-526-2543.  The cleanup will be open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All funds received from the cleanup go back to the NACs in proportion to the amount of volunteer time provided by each NAC. This is a great fundraiser for the NAC as well as a benefit to the city.

NATURAL HAZARDOUS PREPARENESS
The City of Beaverton has contracted the Community Service Center at the University of Oregon to develop and conduct two citizen focus groups regarding natural hazard preparedness to be held on the evening of Tuesday, April 22nd. The first focus group will be held from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm and the second will be held from 7:30 pm until 9:00 pm at the Resource center located at 12500 SW Allen Blvd. They are looking for input on what citizens have done to prepare for disasters as well as citizen priorities for community-wide preparedness activities. Information provided will assist the City in developing and prioritizing activities aimed at reducing the losses associated with natural disasters. The City would like to have two citizens from each NAC at the focus groups. If you would like to attend one of the focus groups please send an email to
jpersey@prodigy.net
or call me at 503-646-6289 and I will register you for the session of your choice. The deadline to register is Friday April 18, 2003.
