GREENWAY NEWSLETTER March 2007 Issue 46 NEXT NAC MEETING IN APRIL AT CONESTOGA MIDDLE SCHOOL The next meeting of the Greenway NAC will be on April 19, 2007 at 7:00 PM. We will meet in the Library at Conestoga Middle School. Our guest speaker will be a representative from Tri-Met to discuss the Washington County Commuter Rail that is currently being constructed. This will be a great opportunity to find out the construction schedule as well as discuss any impacts upon the residents of our NAC. There will be time for questions so be sure to bring up any concerns you might have about Commuter Rail. There will also be two short presentations; one on the Concert in the Park at Greenway Park and one on some small Greenway NAC boundary changes. NEIGHBORHOOD SUMMIT There will be a Neighborhood Summit on Saturday, April 21st from 9 to Noon at City Hall. The topic will be "Living Greener: Practical Solutions for You and How Your City and Regional Partners Can Help!" The Summit will include presentations on techniques to make your house and property more "green," how to make your house more energy efficient, the latest information on recycling and garbage collection, and a presentation about a Green Streets pilot project that the City has completed. The Summit will also include many booths with information from local organizations and businesses. More information will be mailed to the NAC mailing list in the next several weeks. CONCERT IN THE PARK (GREENWAY PARK) A free community concert will take place at Greenway Park on Tuesday, July 31st from 6-8 p.m. Family friendly music featuring popular gypsy jazz-style musicians, food and beverages and other festivities are planned. The stage will be located off of Parkview and the entrance for set break up/down vehicles will be at Parkview and Reid. For more information about this event, contact, Debra Fife, THPRD Special Events Coordinator, at 503-645-6433. Debra will be at our April NAC meeting to give us a short presentation on the concert and I will have maps showing the stage location in the park.. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - BEAVERTON NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP DAY The Annual Cleanup is in need of volunteers. The cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2007. There will be three 2½ hour shifts. Shifts are 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. I will have a sign up sheet at the April NAC meeting. If you can help, you can also call the Beaverton Neighborhood Office at 503-526-2543. The cleanup will be open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All funds received from the cleanup go back to the NACs in proportion to the amount of volunteer time provided by each NAC. This is a great fundraiser for the NAC as well as a benefit to the city. GREENWAY NAC BOUNDARY CHANGE There are currently small areas of the City that are not included in any of the 13 Neighborhood Association Committees (NAC). Several of these areas are next to Greenway NAC and the City of Beaverton is proposing to add these areas to the NAC. I have not seen a map of the additions but have been told that the area consists of a few commercial sites near Highway 217. The Neighborhood Office will be at our April meeting to give a short presentation on the boundary changes. GREENWAY NAC BYLAW CHANGES An on-going project for the Greenway NAC is a revision of our Bylaws. The packet for our April meeting will include the latest and hopefully final version of the bylaws. This is basically the same version presented to the NAC in 2006 with a few changes for clarity and several changes requested by the City of Beaverton's legal department. Please read the bylaws before the meeting so that we can answer any concerns and, if no problems are found, have a vote to approve the Bylaws. PICNIC IN THE PARK Beaverton is planning on again doing its popular Picnics in the Park series again this summer. Unfortunately the location for people living in the Greenway area is changing from Hiteon Park to Ridgecrest Park. The date for the picnic is July 26, 2007. You will receive more information on the time and location. NEW RECYCLING AND GARBAGE WEBSITE The Beaverton Recycling and Garbage Web site has been redesigned and reorganized.
