NEXT NAC MEETING IN APRIL AT CONESTOGA MIDDLE SCHOOL
The next meeting of the Greenway NAC will be on April 21, 2005 at 7:00 PM. We will meet in the library at Conestoga Middle School.  Look for the agenda flyer in the mail next month. Metro is returning to update us on the latest Highway 217 options and obtain feedback from the NAC. Two of the three remaining options include tolls. We will also have a presentation from the Beaverton Dispute Resolution Center. Mediation is not only for neighbor-to-neighbor disputes but they also mediate consumer problems with Beaverton merchants.

PROPOSED TRAFFIC SIGNAL ON HALL AT RIDGECREST
The Traffic Commission voted 4 to 3 to not install a traffic signal at Hall and Ridgecrest. The Traffic Commission was concerned about the impact on the already congested intersection at Hall and Greenway.

CENTER LEFT TURN LANE ON GREENWAY
On Thursday March 3, 2005 the Beaverton Traffic Commission held a public hearing to hear comments on Issue No. TC 573: Center Turn Lane on SW Greenway. The Traffic Commission voted to approve a continuous left turn lane the entire length of SW Greenway.

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS FROM JANUARY MEETING
Several issues came up at the last NAC meeting that need mentioning. Several street light problems were reported. The light on the path between Greenway Elementary School and 125th is maintained by Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District and they have been slow to fix the light. The other street light problem was at Murray and Millikan Way. This location is under Washington County control and they too are slow to respond. The Beaverton Operations Department has been very helpful in contacting these other agencies. There was also a mention of the speed trailer returning to SW Greenway. That will probably never happen again. Right now the work by PGE is closing part of the lanes during the day and doesn't leave room for a speed trailer. Once the center left turn lane (per the above article) is striped Greenway will have 14 foot lanes instead of the present 20 foot lanes and there will no longer be room for a speed trailer. This issue was discussed at the Traffic Commission and with police concurrence the Traffic Commission decided the advantages of the left turn lane outweighed the advantages of a speed trailer.. The smaller lanes may help to slow up traffic on Greenway.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - BEAVERTON NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP DAY
The Annual Cleanup is in need of volunteers. The cleanup is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, June 4, 2005. There will be three 2½  hour shifts. Shifts are 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. I will have a sign up sheet at the April NAC meeting.  If you can help, you can also call the Beaverton Neighborhood Office at 503-526-2543.  The cleanup will be open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All funds received from the cleanup go back to the NACs in proportion to the amount of volunteer time provided by each NAC. This is a great fundraiser for the NAC as well as a benefit to the city.

KOHL'S DEPARTMENT STORES
Kohl's Department Stores proposal to develop a new retail building at the existing Malibu Grand Prix site located near the intersection of SW Cascade Boulevard and SW Scholls Ferry Road has been put on hold while they investigate the possibility of using the vacant Homebase store on Canyon Road. This may be the result of some traffic concerns and the high cost of mitigating these concerns.

SPEED LIMIT ON DOWNING DRIVE
On Thursday February 3, 2005 the Beaverton Traffic Commission held a public hearing to hear comments on Issue No. TC 571: Speed Zoning on SW Downing Drive. The Traffic Commission considered whether the speed limit should be revised on SW Downing Drive between Conestoga Drive and Greenway. The Beaverton Traffic Commission decided to keep the speed limit at 35 mph on SW Downing Drive between Conestoga Drive and Greenway. This was also the consensus of all the citizens that testified before the Traffic Commission.

CASCADE PLAZA DEVELOPMENT
The Board of Design Review has approved the Harsh Investment Properties expansion project for Cascade Plaza. The expansion will include the land previously used by Viewmaster/GAF/Tyco for manufacturing facilities. (This is the land with the TCE contamination.) This project was presented to the Greenway NAC at our January 15, 2004 meeting.

TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT HALL AND GREENWAY
Some of you may have noticed some delays at the signal at Hall and Greenway during part of February. A contractor was doing some underground boring for the installation of new electrical conduit for PGE on February 4th and destroyed one of the traffic signal conduits and the wiring inside. While temporary power was restored that night, the wiring to the loops in the road were not repaired for about three weeks and the traffic signals were working very inefficiently. The contractor actually wanted to wait until June to fix the problem. Beaverton had to go to PGE management to get repairs completed in a timely fashion.
