GREENWAY NEWSLETTER January 2003 Issue 34 NEXT NAC MEETING IN FEBRUARY The next meeting of the Greenway NAC will be on February 20, 2003 at 7:00 PM. We will meet in the library at Conestoga Middle School. Look for the agenda flyer in the mail next month. We will have a presentation from Gary Brentano, Beaverton Operations and Maintenance Director. The Operations Department maintains city facilities, a fleet of vehicles and equipment, city landscapes and trees, roadways, pedestrian/bike paths, traffic signals, streetlights, underground storm drainage pipes, water quality facilities, and underground sanitary sewer pipes. PROPOSAL TO PROHIBIT LEFT TURNS FROM GREENWAY INTO ALBERTSON'S On Thursday December 5, 2002, at 7:00 PM the Beaverton Traffic Commission held a public hearing to hear comments on Issue No. TC 500: Left-Turn Restrictions on SW Greenway at the Driveway near Hall Boulevard. The Traffic Commission considered a proposal to prohibit left turns from Greenway into the parking lot at Albertson's. Staff recommended that turns be prohibited between 4 PM to 6 PM weekdays. The Traffic Commission decided they would prohibit left turns from SW Greenway into Albertsons at all times for everyone except delivery trucks. Since Albertsons would like to discuss some alternate driveway arrangements with Beaverton's Traffic Engineer, the final decision will not be made until the April 2003 Traffic Commission meeting. HALL BOULEVARD BIKE LANES, RIDGECREST DRIVE TO CASCADE BOULEVARD This project is almost finished except for some utility work and an asphalt overlay. The utility work will be completed in January which means the steel plates in the road will be removed. New sensors for the traffic lights at Greenway and Hall will also be installed in January. This will enable the lights to function based on traffic flow instead of the present manual mode. The asphalt overlay will be completed next spring during a period of good weather. 125th /BROCKMAN/GREENWAY INTERSECTION CONSTRUCTION The intersection reconstruction project will begin next spring. Construction work should start in late April or early May with some traffic delays on Greenway and Brockman between Downing Drive and Sorrento. There is the possibility that Brockman, between 125th and Sorrento, will be closed for up to 30 days during the summer. Signs will be posted on Brockman to let the public know the closure dates.
